There has not been time for a reply to our letter

but in the meantime, on the 6th instant, we received a telegram from the Colonial Secretary "Strong demand for coins execute original programme in Governor's despatch 49-9 March." and having communicated it to the Deputy Master of the Royal Mint we have received his reply, a copy of which is enclosed. July 1899.

It will be seen that the Mint, although it does not propose to alter the arrangement made in the letter of the 15th June so far as the resumption of shipments is concerned, requires a large proportion of the balance of silver due, to be at once delivered.

We have already bought silver to the value of £177,542 and the amount now applied for will cost about £100,200 at the present market price of silver.

We propose,

if the Secretary of State sees no objection, to make the best arrangements with the Mint for carrying out the wishes of the Colonial Government as now

understood.
